Sharmin Surani is the Manager, Talent within the Corporate Initiatives and Business Intelligence team at Calgary Economic Development. She is a storyteller about the best city to live in North America, Calgary.

Growing up as an Ismaili, voluntary service has been an integral part of my daily life. In 2014, I was one of those who were impacted by the economic turnover. While I was looking for a job, I realized I was getting interviews and many others I came across were still struggling. I quickly realized what I was doing differently, Networking.

I started conducting free sessions to help those impacted learn the art of Networking. I believe it is important for those that have the talent to be able to use it for social good. Research shows diverse teams are 87% better at making decisions. My commitment to volunteering and passion for diversity advocacy leads me to be a part of this wonderful organization, Making Changes Association.

Sharmin holds an MBA from Edinburgh Napier University and is also a Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP).

She is currently the board director for the Career Development Association of Alberta (CDAA).

Sharmin has 10+ years’ of experience in talent recruitment, development, and management. She strongly believes in the power and impact of diversity in the workplace.

She is proud to have been a part of spearheading the first Women in Technology Pilot cohort.
