Program Eligibility

In order to qualify for the program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Have a minimum CLB 6.5 or equivalent in reading, writing, speaking, and listening

• Are eligible under the program’s immigration or Indigenous funding criteria

• Live in Calgary or the surrounding area, or can attend required in-person networking and practicum activities

• Have not recently completed an educational program in North America, with priority given according to funding criteria

• Are interested in building a career in technology, particularly Full-Stack Web Development

• Can attend full-time training Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for approximately six months

• Are self-motivated and committed to continuous learning

• Are financially able to participate without learner income support

Previous technology education or experience is an asset, but it is not required.

Important Funding Eligibility Note: As of March 31, 2025, CUAET holders are not eligible for employment-related services funded by IRCC.

• Attend an information and assessment session, including a Python-based quiz and critical-thinking assessment.

• Complete a career assessment and budget planner.

• Attend an interview with the Women in Technology program team.

Full Stack Web Development with Python Training and Power Platforms

Learn practical web development skills through instructor-led lessons, self-directed learning, individual and group projects, and hands-on assignments.

Platforms and coding languages:

Python, Scratch, Figma, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, jQuery, Git, React, SQL, Firebase, Cypress End-to-End Testing, and Microsoft Power Platform.

Duration: 19 weeks

Delivery: Online via Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Curriculum may be updated based on labour market needs and input from industry partners.

Employment & Power Skills

Build the workplace and job-search skills needed to pursue employment in Canada’s tech sector. Training includes resume development, interviews, networking, professional communication, problem-solving, collaboration, Canadian workplace culture, and conflict management.

Duration: 4 to 5 weeks

Delivery: Online via Zoom

Practicum Job Placement

Students may complete a 4–6 week practicum placement with a WIT employer partner, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build professional connections, and apply their skills in a workplace setting.

Placements are based on individual career goals, previous experience, employer needs, and availability.

Duration: 4 to 6 weeks

Delivery: Online or in-person depending on the employer

Industry Mentorship & Connections

Connect with technology professionals, guest speakers, mentors, employers, and industry partners through networking and career development opportunities.

Industry Access

Male-dominated workplace cultures weren't designed for women, creating environments where systemic underrepresentation makes success seem unreachable.

Professional Network

Professional success requires networks that surface opportunities and advocate in rooms women aren't in—networks women outside tech don't possess.

Canadian experience

Women with international tech experience or career gaps lack Canadian credentials and industry connections that employers require.

Confidence and career readiness

Without proper representation, opportunities in tech feel like fantasies rather than an achievable career path.
