Why Digital Skills Matter For Women

Today, many everyday tasks require computer and internet skills. Applying for services, finding information, communicating with schools, and accessing community resources often happen online. For women with low or no digital skills, learning how to use technology can make everyday tasks easier and help build confidence and independence.

Essential Community Services

Essential Canadian services require online access—from healthcare to education to government programs—creating insurmountable obstacles for women without digital literacy.

Social Isolation

Inability to use technology for communication, information searching, and community connection compounds the isolation newcomers already experience.

Dependency on Others

Lacking digital skills forces reliance on children or others for basic tasks, undermining autonomy and dignity while creating vulnerability.

Safety Concerns

Without understanding how to use technology safely, women face increased risks from scams, privacy violations, and online threats they cannot recognize.
