Making Changes Association (MCA) is a community of women helping women through life’s stages and transitions by providing them with skills and resources to support their pursuit of meaningful work and educational opportunities. Our vision is to empower women so they can make meaningful contributions to the community. MCA opens doors to employment and education for women and teenage girls and helps them develop the confidence to step through these doors in the direction they desire.

Position Scope

Program: Making Changes Association

Hours: Once a month for 5 hours. Dates vary. Usually, a Saturday or Sunday.

Commitment: No commitment. You can sign up when you are available

Location: Grey Eagle Casino. 3777 Grey Eagle Drive Calgary.

Position Summary

This is a fundraiser for Making Changes. The money raised goes towards our programs and keeping our lights on. Our shifts are 5 hours long and are on Saturdays or Sundays either morning/afternoon or afternoon/evening They change monthly. We work one shift a month with 9 volunteers. Lunch or dinner is complimentary. Note: This is a smoking facility.

Key responsibilities include:

• New volunteers start as ticket sellers. You sell tickets to the bingo players for $1.00. You must be able to make change as payment is made with money.

• Verifying – when a player calls “bingo” you go over to them.

On a handheld radio, you verify the number on the card.

For certain bingos you will pay them their winnings in cash

• Paymaster – you are in the “cage” which is the main office – a bit further away from the smoke. When someone wins a bingo, you might need to pay them in cash. Each transaction is recorded.

• Ticket controller – You are in the “cage” in the main office. Keeps track of the tickets given to the ticket seller. Must be able to record numbers on a spread sheet. Needs special training.

• Chairperson - is in the main “cage”. Must have experience as paymaster and ticket controller. Some of the duties include verifying cash, complete financial/inventory control forms, verify numbers for Bonanza game. Needs special training.

Key Attributes Required for Roles:

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Must be able to make change – we only deal with actual money

• Must be able to walk around for 5 hours

• Must be able to tolerate cigarette smoke

• Be able to learn on the spot

• Must have a CLB level of 6+ or equivalent.
